Fish and Forests
AWA has hosted two Fish and Forest Forum (FFF) events this year (February 17th and June 24th, 2026), with attendance at 15+ individuals/experts across 9-13 different organizations. AWA’s next Fish and Forests Forum hopes to be a hybrid event, with in-person activities but keeping an online presence for members who cannot attend in person.
- During the June 24th FFF, AWA prepared a presentation of Logging Review of the Upper Oldman Headwaters, that was released alongside a mapping tool we created to show our findings, which has documented widespread disturbance to critical habitat for Threatened trout species in the upper Oldman watershed.
- Reid Thomas and Cal Hill will be presenting on the Ghost Region Stewardship Collaborative’s (GRSC) recent Ghost Sub-regional Plan content: Steps to a plan development in response to the Alberta governments Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional planning announcement and Phase 1 engagement.
- Patrick Loewen, Director of Wildfire Mitigation from the ministry of Forestry and Parks presented on the community hazardous fuels reduction program (CHFRP).
