AWA’s Historic Places Days Pancake Breakfast

We celebrated the start of the National Trust for Canada’s Historic Places Days 2026 with a pancake breakfast at the Hillhurst Cottage School — which also doubles as our office!
The building was constructed in 1910 and it operated as what was originally supposed to be a temporary schoolhouse until the mid-1950s. Then, in 1986, it was designated as a Provincial Historic Resource. AWA has been in this space since 1978, first as a renter and now as the owner since 2013.
While our office is always open to visitors during our regular office hours, on a warm summer morning in July we invited wilderness advocates, breakfast lovers, and historic building enthusiasts alike to come by for some pancakes and sausages and a chance to chat with AWA staff and check out our 116-year-old schoolhouse.
Coffee for this breakfast was generously donated by the local Higher Ground Cafe in Kensington!
