AWA Comments on DFO Regulatory Changes

On July 31, 2026, AWA provided comments to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) regarding their changes to regulations that impact fish and fish habitat, which were completed as part of the federal red tape reduction program. We stress that in light of the many detrimental impacts to fish and fish habitat that are already occurring under authorized activities, it is inappropriate to reduce regulatory requirements. Weakening protections and regulatory oversight is not a sustainable plan for the future, especially since it is clear that even the current standards of practice do not sufficiently protect species at risk.
