Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) and the Homewaters Stewardship Program collaborated on Sunday July 19, 2026 to do a riverbank cleanup on both sides (Fish Creek Provincial Park and Douglasbank Park) of the Bow River in Calgary.

The weather was fine – warm, but not hot, and the 17 participants picked up at least 10 large bags filled with trash. This keeps the garbage out of the Bow, protecting both terrestrial and aquatic species. Every little bit helps! Many locals noticed our action, and sometimes that can be a first incentive to being better stewards.

Water is vital – not only for drinking, but for habitat and recreation!

Thanks to everyone who came out and volunteered their time, and thanks to the City of Calgary and Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society for providing supplies and disposing of the trash we collected.
