Learn about Alberta’s endangered iconic Whitebark pines on a family-friendly hike to Window Mountain Lake. It looks pristine, but recent studies reveal some dirty secrets. Find out more on this hike with gorgeous views and endangered five-needle pines. Join Jodie to learn what it takes to protect and restore Alberta’s iconic Whitebark pine trees. Participants will see Whitebark pine conservation in action and get the chance to contribute with tree health surveys at the lake.

We will also learn about the toxins that lie beneath surface of one of southwest Alberta’s most popular mountain lakes and how they impact our watersheds. We will discuss the threats to water quantity and quality in the Eastern Slopes, and what we can do to protect our water.

Jodie Krakowski is Vice-President of the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation of Canada. Jodie has been a keen advocate for these species for over 25 years in various roles throughout her career in BC and Alberta.
