Adventure for Wilderness – Painting and Drawing Around the Pond
with Barbara Amos
July 11, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Forgetmenot Pond Day Use Area (Little Elbow Provincial Recreation Area)
Difficulty: Easy (We will be working within 500 metres of the entrance to the site. There are washroom facilities and picnic tables.)
Ein plein air painting (painting in real time outdoors) is a Canadian tradition, which is well regarded around the world. Bring your paints and give it a try. A lesson will find you if you need ideas for getting started. We will be working Ein Plein Air from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., and we’ll have a short Drawing Challenge after lunch, just for laughs. No previous drawing experience is required. An open mind and laughter is required.
Bring a lightweight chair, comfortable clothing for the forecast, sunglasses, sunhat, a picnic lunch & water, and drawing/painting supplies.
Suggested art supplies:
- Watercolours & brushes with a small container for water
- Sketchbook and watercolor paper
- Pencil or watercolour pencils
- Masking tape, easy release
- Drawing pens such as permanent black ink drawing pens (black sharpie, ultra fine, or micron .05 & 10), water-soluble black ink pen (as in a Tombow), water-soluble coloured pens (such as Tombow Dual Markers)
Please note: a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your car here. You can purchase a daily or annual pass.
