Nature Canada Reception: Urban Nature Leadership Reception

On May 22, 2026, AWA was honored to attend Nature Canada’s Urban Nature Leadership Reception. It was a night focused on celebrating accomplishments in nature and conservation, and especially those that define Calgary.
The speakers focused largely on Calgary as a certified Bird-friendly city, a designation Nature Canada oversees, and that the city first achieved in 2021. Calgary has been re-certified twice, and even improved its standing from Entry to Intermediate level. We also heard from guest speakers, including Deputy Mayor Andre Chabot and Shadow Minister for the Environment Sarah Elmeligi, about the importance of nature to identity, health and happiness.
After, we chatted and shared stories, and committed to continuing to fight for our natural spaces.
